“In 1986, I suggested that a selection from the collections in Société Française de Photographie be shown in Gothenburg when photography celebrates its 150th anniversary. And since we were the first to ask, the society agreed. It is indeed generous of this venerable institution to loan a substantial part of its unique collections to Sweden just this year when France is celebrating the fact that it was Frenchmen who invented photography.” (Rune Hassner)
